SFCTC has three Yahoo-based subscription email lists:
By Internet edicate, announcement lists are configured so that replies go back to the originator, while discussion lists are configured so that replies go to the entire list. SFCTC elected to configure all of their lists as fully moderated announcement lists. In practise, the Access SF Discussion List is the only one that's active. During my employment, I belonged to all three lists, but there was never any traffic on either of the announcement lists.
Anyone wishing to join these lists must subscribe and the subscription must be approved by Zane Blaney, although he occasionally delegates some administration to Aaron Vinck. All outgoing mail must be approved by Zane. Although the Access SF web site claims otherwise, these are fully censored mail lists. If your email questions station policy or Zane's mismanagement, the email will not be forwarded to the mail list.
People would often complain to me about these lists. The discussion list is the only one that's active. Producers try to use it for crew calls, but the moderator often neglects to approve the postings in time for the show. People often complain that their postings are rejected. Zane and Aaron claim they do not censure the postings, but I know that they routinely censor postings based on content.
Facil is the management information system that Access SF uses to track people, reservations, classes, etc. Everyone who participates at Access SF is in this database, and each person belongs to many different mail lists (i.e., Members, Producers, Volunteers, Studio-certified, Field-certified, etc.). Actually I just learned that on January 25th after I translated Zane's Email from January 25, 2006, Zane had my name removed from all of the mail lists. So I suppose people that question Zane's mismanagement forfeit their right to receive notices, even if they are paid members.
These Facil-based mail lists are the primary mechanism that SFCTC uses to send out notices. Facil is a very controlled tool, so these mail lists are not available to anyone but staff. Even then, Staff must get Zane approval prior to sending out any notices.
The SF Producers Email List was setup by others to bypass Zane's censorship. This is a full-blown discussion list. Note that Zane monitors this list.
My Reform Access SF Mail List is used by me for outgoing announcements.
